The news lately has been hard to take in, hasn’t it.
I have had to stop watching the news over the years, learning that video images increase my anxiety to high levels that I struggle recovering from. But, I do still read the news. I really try to limit my consumption, but these days it’s hard: there is just so much happening, and so many disheartening and unjust things occurring around us.
We can be distracted by the Olympics or Super Bowl momentarily, but then it’s back to the hard reality that (as David French put it in the Good Faith Podcast) “America is on the knife’s edge.”
I listened to a great weekly update from John Eldredge this week. You can listen by clicking the link below…
In this update, he shares a story of God moving and throws out the idea…what if after every horrible news story we hear, another news story followed of how God is moving on the earth.
I felt my heart ease.
What if that was the reality I lived in.
It’s the reality I believe, but I never had put these two ideas together.
John said to have “proclamations” or “declarations” that you read daily. Reminding you of WHO God is and that he’s not taking a nap! That he’s MOVING! Even in the midst of all that is happening around us.
So here are my proclamations in whatever news cycle unfolds today….no matter what I see or experience or hear…
God is MOVING
God sees injustice
God hears the cries of the persecuted
God is just and his justice WILL prevail, it’s just a matter of time.
God is never deceived
God is near
God speaks to us
God is full of emotion
God is merciful
God offers peace
God offers freedom
God offers redemption
I hold these truths today.
“God is moving. That’s the truest story.” – John Eldredge
